“HONESTY IS THE FIRST CHAPTER IN THE BOOK OF WISDOM.”
— THOMAS JEFFERSON
Being honest means not lying to other people. It also means not lying to ourselves. Sometimes we lie to ourselves so we can pretend to be happier. For example, I could look outside on a cloudy day and lie to myself and say, “It looks sunny!” So, I don’t bring an umbrella with me. But then it starts to rain! Because I lied, I get
all wet!
Ask Your Students:
- Do you think you can be happier if you lie to yourself or if you are honest with yourself?
- Do you think it is smarter to be honest with yourself?
- What are ways we can be honest with ourselves?
